Trent wins Triple Crown Amateur
The Triple Crown Amateur was played the last three days at some of the finest golf courses the Las Vegas Valley has to offer: Dragon Ridge, South Shore, and Southern Highlands.
The championship division was won by Jack Trent, who is a Las Vegas Junior Golf Members and future member of the Men’s UNLV Golf Team. Trent shot 76-72-68=216 for a three day total of one over par. Rounding out the Top 3 was Jason Margetts and future University of New Mexico Golfer Sam Dickey.
In the Senior Division, John Turk led by 2 strokes over Gary Carpendale after 36 holes and did everything right the final round to keep the field at bay. Turk posted rounds of 70-73-74=217 to extend on his lead and claim the divisional title by 4 shots. Carpendale held second place through two rounds, but was ran down in the final round by Gary Lanzen, whose smooth 73 allowed him to leapfrog Carpendale for 2nd place.
In Senior Net Division, Jim LiCausi used back-to-back net 67’s to capture the crown. LiCausi quality play propelled him to a 10-shot win.
In the Super Senior Division, it was more of the same as Frank Abbott got out to a 7-shot lead after Round 1 and never looked back. Abbott continued to put his petal to the medal in the closing two rounds resulting in and extremely comfortable 16 shot victory over SNGA newcomer Robert Konsdorf. Abbott’s win adds to his resume of Southern Nevada Golf Association victories.
In the Super Senior Net Division, Larry Agan posted 211 net over three days to clear Frank Abbott by 9 shots. Since Abbott won the scratch division, second place was awarded to Stephen Sitar who fired a 230 Net.
In the Net Division, it was an open race going into the back nine on Tuesday. Mark Cox and Andy Sessa were neck and neck after two rounds, but Cox was able to post a Net 69 to lay claim to the victory over Sessa. Andy Sessa finished 2-shots back of Cox with a Net 223.
