Alex Forristal birdied all three par-5s en route to winning his second SNGA title.

“I didn’t strike it very well but played well on the par 5s and gave myself a chance with them being reachable,” he said.

He added he wasn’t sure what to expect coming into the tournament.

“I didn’t have high expectactions,” he said. “I haven’t been playing that well or that often so I just went in trying to keep it in front of me.”

Overall, he said his goal was to keep up with the players in his group.

“The guys were playing good so I knew I had to stay with them to give myself a chance,” he said. “It came down to No. 17. We were all tied and and I birdied it (a par-5) and they both parred it.”

Forristal, who owns a wholesale distribution company, said that in the end, a win is a win.

“It feels good to win no matter at what level you’re playing,” he said. “And the guys in the group elevated my mindset and made me focus a little more. I just kept at it and competed.”

Brian Hurlburt had three birdies in a four-hole stretch in winning the Senior Division by two strokes after firing a 3-under par 68.

It was Hurlburt’s first win of 2024 after winning three times in 2023–two individual titles and a team title.

“I knew going into it that it was a smaller field,” Hurlburt said. “I just wanted to put a good round together. John (Bobroski) and I played together and he also played very well. I thought he was going to overtake me there for a little while.”

It was mission accomplished but he was quick to add that putting a good round together has been easier said than done in 2024.

“I know how lucky we are to be out here playing golf, but earlier this year I was in a pretty dark place with my golf game,” he said. “I didn’t know what was happening.”

But he kept working at it and hopes he’s turning it around.

“Something has clicked recently,” he said. “I’m trusting my swing a little more and … knock on wood …maybe I found something. For whatever reason, I started putting some good rounds together and hopefully that continues. A few people that I have known in golf for a long time have been very encouraging and given me some advice and I really appreciate that.”

He said the 10th hole, despite posting a bogey, was a positive one for the round.

“I hit my first bad shot of the day and hit it in the desert,” he said. “We found it and I punched it out and did make a bogey but it could easily have been a double or a triple in a flash. I stayed calm in the moment and that kept the momentum going.”

David Foggia won for the third time in 2024, using a five-birdie day to win by one stroke.

Foggia said it was a solid day…with one exception.

“I’ve got to start laying up on that hole,” Foggia said with a laugh when talking about his lone blemish on the card, a double-bogey on the par-5 second. “My second shot wound up pin-high in a bunker. I skulled it across the green and then hit a good chip to about three-feet. Not only did I miss that putt but I three-putted for the double…how’s that for a hole?”

In the end, Foggia had the five birdies, the one double bogey and 12 pars.

“I’m trying to learn to manage the game and, as you know, that’s not always easy,” he said of his no-bogey round. “But overall it was a real good day.”

He added his short game carried his play.

“My wedge play was good,” he said. “I almost jarred one from 65 yards on the back. It left me a tap-in for birdie.”

He also said that short game helped in another way.

“The greens were a bit tricky,” he said. “You really had to stay focused…even on the short ones.”

John Diclaro played an early six-hole stretch in five-under-par (a net eagle and three net birdies) in winning for the first time in 2024.

Diclaro, who last won in February, 2023, said it’s nice to be back.

“I usually win once every other year,” he said. “But now I’ve won in back-to-back years and that’s a first for me.”

He said the torrid start on the front nine was helped by his short game.

“I chipped in for eagle and that really got me going,” he said. “I went in to the tournament hoping for a top-five because I usually don’t play Angel Park that well. To win is great.”

He added when he made the turn, things got a little dicey.

“The nerves got to me on a couple of holes,” he said. “I pushed some drives and hit it into the only bunker I was in all day. But I survived.”

In the end, it all came down to the final hole.

“I knew where I was at,” Diclaro said. “I hit my drive on 18 into the 10th fairway and then hit it to the front of the green. I chipped it up and two-putted for a bogey, net par.”

He said the win validates his growing confidence.

“I’ve had some of my lowest rounds ever in the last month and a half,” he said. “I did well in the two-day event at Reflection Bay where I came in third. I’m hoping to win another one this year…I haven’t ever won twice in a year.”
