Boulder Creek Golf Club

If you haven’t been to Boulder City, Nevada, you should plan a trip soon. Boulder City, a quaint town that is the gateway to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, is the home of two city-owned golf courses that are worth the play. In addition to the golf there are historic hotels, fun and interesting restaurants and shops, and a small-town atmosphere that is the polar opposite of Las Vegas, the glittering city to the south. The Las Vegas Strip is about 35 minutes from Boulder City. Another interesting note about Boulder City is that there is no gambling allowed within the city limits.

The two courses in Boulder City are Boulder City Golf Course, the original, and the more modern Boulder Creek Golf Club. Each is a unique golf journey that offer value and intrigue. Boulder City Golf Course offers a classical golf experience while Boulder Creek is a desert golf journey.

Boulder Creek Golf Club features 27 holes of Mark Rathert golf that debuted with much fanfare in 2003. Rathert is an accomplished designer who also recently completed renovations on the historic and private Las Vegas Country Club. These holes bring the rugged southwest desert terrain into play, and provide a unique alternative to the more oasis-style golf that is experienced on the other course. But have no fear, there is still plenty of room at Boulder Creek, and fairways are hittable and there aren’t an over-abundance of forced carries that are common traits to some desert courses. The three nines at Boulder Creek are Eldorado, Coyote Run, and Desert Hawk.

A huge and effective practice area (the other course is also home to a great area) is part of the fun at Boulder Creek, as are some of the most challenging and scenic holes found in the area. Most notable is the finishing hole on the Desert Hawk nine, a 480-yard monster that plays to a fairway and green guarded by water at just about every nook and cranny. Las Vegas golf writer Bill Bowman calls it one of the toughest holes in all of Las Vegas. The 179-yard, 8th hole on the Coyote Run nine is a stimulating par 3 that plays over water, and is the perfect set up to the 469-yard, 9th hole that plays while water down the entire left-hand side of the hole grabs a golfer’s attention.

The Clubhouse at the Boulder Creek Golf Club is a true oasis in the desert. It houses a well-stocked Pro Shop, the Boulder Creek Grill which is open for lunch and dinner, a full bar, a full service coffee shop, a handicap computer area, men’s and women’s locker room, and a full Banquet Facility allowing the Boulder Creek Golf Club to host tournaments, corporate outings, banquets and weddings.

If you want traditional and fun golf at a good rate, tee it up on the original. If you want modern Las Vegas golf with a few more bells and whistles, play Boulder Creek, an experience topped off by a beautiful clubhouse, pro shop and restaurant.
