Rhodes Ranch Golf Club

Sometimes the perception about golf courses in Las Vegas is that they are all desert, target layouts. That isn’t the reality and a course that definitely proves the variety in Vegas is Rhodes Ranch Golf Club, a nice Ted Robinson course located in the southwest part of the Las Vegas valley. The course is professionally managed by the esteemed Arnold Palmer Golf Management company.

Rhodes Ranch Golf Club is a par 72, 6,909-yard beautiful and rolling course where holes are highlighted by wide fairways and large greens. What that means is players will find most errant tee shots, but will also be challenged on the putting surfaces. The combination allows for a relaxing and enjoyable round, and when combined with a dazzling set of par 3 holes, it makes playing Rhodes Ranch Golf Club a quality Vegas golf experience.

Robinson once called the set of par 3 holes at Rhodes Ranch the best set he’d ever designed. Robinson was named as a Fellow of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1995, and created golf courses across the globe, but always had fond memories of Las Vegas and Rhodes Ranch. Robinson also designed Tuscany Golf Club (a sister course to Rhodes).

He was known as the “King of the Waterscape” and his fondness for creating beauty with water is evident at Rhodes, especially with the par 3 holes. The beauty jumps up in the round quickly because the par 3, 227-yard, 3rd hole features all of the things that Robinson loved about course design. A large water feature, mature palm trees, and strategic bunkers decorate the hole which is located at the entrance to the Rhodes Ranch community. The other par 3 holes, including the par 3, 212-yard 16th, also are modern golf sculptures, with the 16th played over a large lake while a gentle stream trickles to the left of the putting surface, creating just a bit more intrigue.

“The golfer attacks, the designer defends,” is how Robinson once described his philosophy. “Such is the adversarial relationship that defines the creation of a golf course. At one extreme, it is easy to create a course where few would ever break a hundred. At the other, a course too easily defended quickly results in a loss of interest. The overriding objective of good course design is a balance between these extremes, creating an effective and rewarding experience for golfers at all levels of play.”

“Rhodes Ranch lives up to those words, and carries on the legend of Robinson in a most appropriate manner. Rhodes Ranch also offers a nice setting for weddings and other corporate events and special gatherings. A special event lawn overlooks the 18th hole.
