Legislative Issues

SNGA – The Voice of Golf in Southern Nevada

For most, golf is just a hobby and a favorite pastime. But the impact that the game makes on society shouldn’t be overlooked and the Southern Nevada Golf Association staff and board of directors work diligently to be the voice of golf in Southern Nevada. The staff and board work with all allied associations to ensure that the proper message is disseminated and heard by the proper people.

While the SNGA doesn’t officially have a governmental affairs department as some other major golf organizations do, the executive director and executive committee maintain close ties to local, regional and state governmental leaders.

The SNGA represents golf consumers with the Nevada Golf Industry Alliance and monitors state, regional and local governments in regards to issues that can impact the game of golf. Among the allied organizations that work together to carry the message of golf in Southern Nevada are the Nevada Golf Course Owners Association, Southern Nevada Chapter-Southwest Section-PGA of America, The First Tee of Southern Nevada, Southern Nevada Golf Course Superintendents Association, and the Women’s Southern Nevada Golf Association among others.

The group of allied organizations have worked together to create special Nevada Golf Days in Carson City during legislative sessions and other events that help carry the positive message of golf in Southern Nevada and the state of Nevada to the proper decision makers.

The SNGA and allied organizations have worked with a hired lobbyist to successfully stop previous legislation that would be detrimental to the golf industry including improper taxing and other zoning issues associated with taxation. The SNGA is also working to carry the proper message about water conservation and the role golf courses play in a community as it relates to water issues.
