Revenge of the Quad – South Looks to Rebound

In 2019, the women of Northern Nevada swept the gross and net divisions of the Nevada State Women’s Golf Association Quad tournament, a team event created in 2001 to increase participation throughout the state. It has worked as the event features a full field and is one of the most enjoyable events on the schedule. The team of Rita Byorick, Ronda Henderson, Sherry Jackson and Brenda Knott could be the favorite in the best-two-balls-of-four team format. Three of the four from this year’s team–Henderson, Byorick and Jackson–teamed with Janet Weber to win it along with a few years ago.

“The first thing that comes to my mind is how thankful I am we even get to play the event,” Henderson says. “This event was originally scheduled for earlier in the year in spring, and like everything else, it was cancelled. We didn’t expect for it to be rescheduled, but surprise! We have a strong team who have played in this event as a team many times. We each need to play our best to win it. I know we have been working hard on our games, so I think our chances are good to win it, but I always think that.”

Despite playing together several times and featuring some of the top players in the state, the team has never won as a unit. However, Knott (a Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame member) and Byorick were two key members of a team that won the Quad five straight times (the other two players on those teams were Doe Emes and Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame member Laurie Johnson.)

Another strong team from the South will be Regina Quintero, Debbie Love, Carrie Langevin and Theresa Prospero.

The 2019 northern gross champs were Cheryl Burke, Christy Atencio, Laura Hone and Ruthie D Maxwell, while the net champions were Cindy Hall, Nancy Prahm, Jody Longballa and Charlotte Sullivan.
