Silver Cup Qualifier, Southern Nevada Am Highlight WSNGA Schedule

Coming up at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Reflection Bay Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas are two prestigious events wrapped into one with the playing of the Women’s Southern Nevada Amateur and the Silver Cup qualifier, both scheduled for June 20-21, 2021. –By Brian Hurlburt, Las Vegas Golf Insider.

“We enjoy hosting major amateur events and we are excited about having the top women players out here in June,” says Eric Dutt, Reflection Bay’s director of operations. “We look forward to watching the best women amateurs play our Jack Nicklaus course. Reflection Bay is a great test of golf and we are always honored to be the location for prestigious tournaments such as the Southern Nevada Amateur and Silver Cup qualifier.”

The defending champ of the women’s am is Kim Braaten, who was happy to win in 2020, after finishing second in 2019. She also won the event previously. The 2020 event was played at the Pete Dye Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort.

“My ball-striking wasn’t very good,” she said after the victory. “But I was happy with my putting. The putting definitely kept me in it. I didn’t have any three-putts which is good … This was a little bit of redemption. I felt like I had it last year and wound up second. It was nice to win it again.”

The Silver Cup is arguably the most prestigious event in Nevada women’s amateur golf. It is a team Solheim Cup-style event played between the North and South. Earning a spot is something to be savored.

“I believe the history of the event is what makes it special,” multiple Southern Nevada player Ronda Henderson has said about the Silver Cup. “It’s a fierce but friendly three days of match play golf. The Silver Cup is amateur golf at its finest, whether the matches are between two 15 handicappers or two single-digit handicappers. Each player is grinding it out, giving all they have, to win that point for their side.”

So, two huge events plus a golf course designed by who many believe is the greatest to ever play the game. Sounds like an epic two days in the making at Reflection Bay.
