SNGA Member Barzekoff Wins State Am, Then Shoots 58

What a few days for SNGA member Cameron Barzekoff. First, he wins the 2022 Nevada State Amateur at -17 and then a few days later shoots 58 on the same course, Las Vegas Golf Club. –By Brian Hurlburt, Founder, www.lasvegasgolfinsider.com

“It’s been a crazy 72 hours,” Barzekoff said a few minutes after shooting the follow-up 58. “It feels amazing to win the state amateur after working hard at the golf course for the last few months and to see myself come out with the trophy really shows that if you put the work in you can achieve what your goals are. Then coming out today and shooting a back 9, 27,  for a 58, is even crazier, especially the day before my birthday. I just gotta keep my head down and plug along and keep working for the next qualifiers/tournaments.”

After the state win, Barzekoff shared with writer Bill Bowman that while he won by four shots over fellow SNGA members Jackson Parrish and Craig Erickson, it wasn’t easy.

“It was a battle and a lot more stressful than I would have liked,” he said. “Through nine holes I think I was one shot ahead. We were just battling it out. I even went one-down with five to go. I just told myself there were still birdies out there. I knew it wasn’t over. I managed to play the last five holes three-under and got the job done. I’m really proud of the way I hung in there.”
