Women’s Team Play Finale Culminated Terrific 2024 With Champion Performances
It was a finale to remember. The Southern Nevada Golf Association Business Women (Overall), DragonRidge (Gross) and Red Rock (Net) won championships in the 2024 Women’s SNGA Team Play series. Nancy Lauback, WSNGA Team Play Coordinator, said the 2024 finale was an impressive display to end the season.
“I’m really proud of everybody who committed to this season,” she said. “There was a lot of drama. Everybody played their hearts out. The Wolf Course and the wind really made for a challenging finale. It’s just been a great year.”
Overall
The Business Women won the Overall title, beating BC Rock Steady 16.5-7.5 points.
The Overall title was decided using both gross and net scores.
“Our girls have been motivated all season,” said Margie Cashwell, Business Women co-captain along with Christine Soscia. “They love the competition and it was a very competitive season.”
This was the Business Women’s third title in the last four years but BC Rock Steady came in as the defending Overall champs.
“We lost to BC Rock Steady last time so that was motivation as well,” Cashwell said. “We wanted the title back.”
She said the WSNGA Team Play series is an event the players look forward to…a lot.
“It’s one of the most enjoyable competitions we have,” Cashwell said. “Everybody just loves this event.”
Members of the winning team included: Brittany Bronson, Theresa Prospero, Gabby Buonacorsi, Theresa Summers, Margie Cashwell, Kathy Faber and Lisa Wiley.
“BC Rock Steady is a fantastic team,” Cashwell said. “Playing against them is enjoyable and fun and the big thing is we always come away as great friends and that’s what makes team play so special.”
Gross
DragonRidge raced to a 9-3 victory over Chimera Silver to win the Gross title.
Peggy Gore, co-captain of the DragonRidge team, was impressed with the team’s effort.
“We had eight girls out here playing their hearts out and eight others at home following us,” Gore said. “Everyone just played great. I’m so proud of them.”
The DragonRidge winning contingent consisted of Debbie Love, Sherry Jackson, Cindy Kang, Sandy Barletta (co-captain), Nancy Dunn, Laura Guida, Peggy Gore and Sandy Jenkins.
DragonRidge, playing in the team competition for the first year, finished the season with a bang.
“It was just a great way to end the year,” Gore said. “We won most of our matches and we had one match where we won all 24 points.”
Despite the score, Gore said the final match was a battle.
“Overall, I think Chimera played better than the score indicated,” she said. “They have a very good team over there.”
Net
Red Rock won the Net title with a 10-2 victory over Conestoga, out of Mesquite.
“We just tried to stay calm,” said Kim Haines, Red Rock co-captain. “We struggled a little bit with the wind but it was challenging for everyone.”
Haines said the Red Rock team was just that–a team–throughout the 2024 season leading to the title.
“We have 19 players on the roster and 17 of them played in one or more matches throughout the year,” she said. “It was definitely a team effort. Everybody worked hard to get us to this point.”
The winning team included: Tammy Espinosa, Helen Welsh, Jyn Ahn, Deborah Katz, Kim Haines, Liz Reiter, Ruby Biehl (co-captain) and Catheryn Fuller.
Haines checked with a team member when it came to coming up with the key to the victory.
“We didn’t overanalyze the wind and played our own game,” she said.
