UNLV and SNGA Player JJ Gresco Wins State Amateur
JJ Gresco knew he needed a special round to make up a big deficit heading into the final round of the Nevada State Amateur played at Reno’s Somersett Country Club. He used an ace in the final round and overall good play to catch second-round leader Mitchell Abbott and clinch his first state amateur title.
Gresco is a rising junior for UNLV men’s golf and was thrilled with the victory.
“I didn’t really have a number in my head going into the round,” Gresco said of the final-round two-under-par 70. “I just knew I needed a solid round to have any chance.”
Gresco started the last day four strokes behind leader Abbott, but lightning struck early in the round as Gresco aced the par-3 third hole to close the gap.
