UNLV PGA Tournament Benefits Mathew Anderson Scholarship Fund
From Chris Cain, UNLV Professional Golf Management Director, Tournament Chair.
The PGA Golf Management University (PGM) Program housed within the UNLV William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration invites your support of the Matthew S. Anderson PGM Scholarship Endowment Fundraising Event being held on Monday, May 4, 2020 at TPC Summerlin.
Anderson was born Aug. 21, 1985, in Fort Smith, Ark., and had lived in Las Vegas for 12 years, but passed away after an illness in 2010. He was a 2004 graduate of Faith Lutheran High School and a Professional Golf Management student at UNLV. He had just started a summer internship at Red Rock Country Club at the time of his passing. Matthew loved the game of golf and especially loved working with children. He was looking forward to graduation and a career as a golf professional. As part of Matthew’s degree requirements, he had completed a number of summer internship assignments. One of his most rewarding summers was spent working with young golfers in the First Tee of Southern Nevada program.
Since 2002, the PGM program has been educating students in the Art, Science, and Business of the game of golf by offering a concentration in PGA education within the UNLV Hotel College hospitality management major. The combination of these two rigorous academic programs with the requirement of 16 months of hands on internship experience and completion of the PGA’s playing ability test produces a professionally prepared and passionate graduate who aspires excellence in the golf and hospitality industry.
Our students benefit from financial assistance programs like scholarships received during their studies in the PGM program. Scholarship funding is critical to some of our students who need these funds to continue with their education. The Matthew S. Anderson Scholarship Endowment Fundraising Event will benefit all three scholarship endowments directed toward students in the PGM program. Supporters of our event on Monday, May 4 will be able to choose which endowment they wish their proceeds to be directed. Choices include the Matthew S. Anderson Memorial PGM Scholarship Endowment, the SusanAnn Sky Holmes Scholarship Endowment, and the Southwest Section PGA of America Scholarship Endowment.
We invite you to participate in the golf tournament and also to consider a donation through a sponsorship level, or item for the silent auction. All donors, sponsors and participants will be recognized by the UNLV Foundation, a Nevada non-profit organization (Tax ID #94-2790134).
All donations are requested no later than April 24, 2020. We are happy to arrange collection of your donation or it can be mailed to the address listed below in care of Christopher Cain. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call (702) 895-2932 or e-mail [email protected].
