Alex Kang Uses Major Champ Advice to Win US Open Local Qualifier

It was a star-studded day at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort for the annual U.S. Open Local Qualifier organized by the Southern Nevada Golf Association. Web.com Tour player Alex Kang, who finished 10th at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open last year, shot 65 to earn low medalist and one of five spots to move on to sectional qualifying. On his bag was sister Danielle, an LPGA Tour major champion currently ranked 12th on the LPGA Tour money list.

Others earning trips to sectionals were Van Thomas, Brett Kanda, Brandon Smith and Brandon Bauman.

“I had a lot fun with my sister, I made some putts and it’s always fun to shoot 65,” said Kang, a Web.com Tour player who finished tied for 10th at last year’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. “She had positive vibes and just told me to stay calm and stay chill.”

The U. S. Open is at Pebble Beach June 13-16. The qualifier was played on the Sun Mountain course at the Paiute, one of three Pete Dye signature courses at the facility, the only three such designs in Nevada.

The official LPGA Tour twitter account even took notice, tweeting about it and linking to the official news report in the Review-Journal by the Las Vegas Golf Insider, Brian Hurlburt.
