A new event highlights the fall for senior golfers of Women’s Southern Nevada Golf Association, and it features the Stableford format. The event is scheduled for Oct. 1-2 at Aliante Golf Club, which has been getting plenty of above about qualify conditions of late. Both days begin with a 7:30 am shotgun start. –By Brian Hurlburt, founder, LasVegasGolfInsider.com

“We are excited about this new event for a lot of reasons,” said Sherry Jackson, WSNGA tournament co-chair. “We wanted to add a tournament for the fall and we decided to create a stableford to maybe draw in some of the players who don’t normally play stroke play with us. We have always had great success with our fun days because players aren’t intimidated and know they can’t get trapped on one hole with a bad score and they won’t hold people or be embarrassed or whatever. The Stableford format will be competitive, but the scoring system is more friendly. We also believe this will be an entrance into our other events.”
Stableford uses a point system instead of stroke play. The table below breaks it down. There will be three flights by handicap and players are able to request specific cart mates. A golfer must be 50 by the first day of competition to be eligible.
POINTS | NET | GROSS |
0 | Net double bogey or worse | Double bogey or worse |
1 | Net bogey | Bogey |
2 | Net par | Par |
3 | Net birdie | Birdie |
4 | Net eagle | Eagle |
Jackson also said the location of Aliante in the Northwest was a key factor in the creation of the event.
“We are playing an event in the Northwest for the first time in a while and we haven’t been out at Aliante in probably 20 years, but everybody has been saying it’s in great shape,” Jackson said. “We are always looking to grow our player base so we think the location and the format will be enticing. We welcome any female golfer 50 or over to come out and join us.”
