The tournament featured a Modified Stableford format. Players earned four points for an eagle, three points for a birdie, two points for a par, one point for a bogey and zero points for a double bogey.

Ronda Henderson picked up points on 34 of 36 holes over the two days in posting a five-point victory in the Gross Division.

For the two days, Henderson had three birdies (three points each) but added 20 pars (two points each) in a tournament she said was filled with consistent play.

“My goal was pretty simple…I wanted to get a point on every hole,” she said. “The Stableford format isn’t my favorite but today it was beneficial. Coming down the 18th hole, with this format, I had a three-point lead and would have had to blow up on the hole to not win. In stroke play, if you have a bad hole, someone can catch you.”

Henderson said the battle with Regina Quintero down the stretch was a tough one.

“She was right there with three holes to go,” Henderson said. “We started the day tied and were still tied with nine holes to go. Then we took turns leading on the back until she had a tough stretch of holes late and that made my job a little easier.”

Henderson said the win was a great way to finish a solid year.

“The bigger picture for me was to end on a high note,” she said. “I won eight of the nine tournaments I entered and had a Sweet 16 finish in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur so it was a pretty darn good year.”

Linda Prujan scored 15 points in a five-hole stretch (five net birdies for 15 points) early in the second round in winning the Net Division for her first WSNGA title.

“I was just in a zone today,” Prujan said. “I played much better today. I don’t think I missed a fairway today and I missed a lot yesterday. It was just a different day.”

She said the format definitely played a role in her victory.

“If it wasn’t a Stableford format, I wouldn’t have this trophy,” she said. “It opens up the tournament so just about anyone can win.”

She added she’s still coming to grips with winning.

“I’m not used to winning things like this so I’m not sure what to say,” she said with a laugh. “I just didn’t have any fear today. In the grand scheme of things, it is what it is. You just go out and try to do your best.”
