Historic Southern Nevada Amateur at Paiute
At the end of June, the historic Southern Nevada Amateur will be played at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort Sun Mountain course June 29-30, 2019. The prestigious event dates back decades and some of the top players in Southern Nevada and Las Vegas golf history have won the tournament including Ed Fryatt, Brady Exber, Taylor Montgomery, Eric Dutt, Doug Pool, Louis Redden, Robert Gamez and many, many more. “As one of our four majors and as one of the oldest amateur championships in the Southern Nevada area, our players consider this a prestigious event,” says Tim Brand, SNGA director of rules and competitions. “When you look at some of the names of past champions, you can tell that it brings out the very best amateur golfers in the area.”
The defending champions are Josh Goldstein (championship), Daniel Rinaldi )net), Frank Acker (senior), Randy Burton (senior net), Frank Abbott (silver) and Larry Keever (silver net).
“It’s feels really good to have won the Southern Nevada Amateur and some of the other top SNGA tournaments,” says Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame inductee Lou Redden, the 1975 and 1977 Southern Nevada Amateur champion. “It was a long time ago so the memory fades a bit, but it was great playing against some of the top players like Carlo Money, Kit Dickinson, and I think Tommy Armour III even played back then.”
