Avery Lazarski went back-to-back in the Championship Division, winning the 2024 title by three strokes after winning the 2023 title by four strokes when it was held last October.
For the two days, Lazarski had two eagles (both of them the first day) and 15 birdies. He fired rounds of 64-64 to finish 16-under par.
Lazarski, who graduated from Bishop Gorman High School and is a sophomore-to-be at St. Mary’s College in California, said winning this title twice shows his game is in a good place.
“The driver was consistent…I barely missed any fairways,” he said. “The first day I hit all 18 greens and the second day I hit 15 greens. I just told myself to keep giving myself good looks at birdies putts and hopefully they would fall. And a lot of them did.”
He said winning the Las Vegas City Amateur twice shows his work is paying off.
“It’s very cool to go back-to-back,” he said. “Tournaments like the majors bring out a really strong field. I’m happy to go up against the best and see what happens. Winning this tournament is great because it is one of the best.”
He said despite shooting those 64s in each round, there’s still work to be done.
“Every part of my game worked well this weekend,” he said. “But playing well just motivates me to work that much harder. It’s really positive to see what I did well and then go back to the drawing board to see what I can do better.”

Robert Taylor said he played two mistake-free days in winning the Net title and his first major.
“The last three rounds I’ve played are three of the best I have played in my life,” he said. “I played a practice round here last Sunday and shot 72. Then I shot 73 yesterday and 72 today. I’ve never done that before.”
He added he’s found two reasons for his success.
“Not making any big numbers is always good,” he said with a laugh. “I’m excited when I make a lot of pars and then making a few birdies is icing on the cake. And I also went to a broomstick putter and that has literally changed my game.”
He said his putting confidence is growing every time out.
“My speed control is so much better,” he said. “I had a lot of 35-to-40 footers and two-putted most of them.”
Taylor said winning again was great but winning a major is impressive.
“It’s hard to win out here,” he said. “There are so many good players. I just tried to take every single shot one at a time and then go on to the next shot and at the end go see what Ann (Sunstrum) says. Today she said I won.”
And with the victory comes a little hardware–a trophy.
“We don’t have that many majors so these are special,” Taylor said. “Winning one of these makes it feel like your season just got a whole lot better.”
