Championship
Kevin McEvoy birdied two of his final three holes to post his first individual SNGA title.
He teamed up with Matt Mitchell to win the Championship title in the SNGA Tour Four-Ball event held Feb. 13, 2024, and also teamed with Grant McKay to win the Championship division in the 2023 SNGA Tour’s Four-Ball Stableford tournament.
“This was a first,” he said. “Coming out on top was a pleasant surprise.”
He said it was a surprise, especially with a double-bogey on the first hole.
“That’s one of the toughest holes to start out on,” he said. “Luckily it was a little easier to stay in it as our whole group got off to a rough start.”
He settled down but then ran into another tough stretch when he went bogey-double bogey-bogey on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes.
“That was rough,” he said. “After those holes I could have mentally called it a day but I hung in there. I hit a good drive over the canyon on 16 and hit a good wedge shot and made birdie. And then birdieing the 17th really let me get back in control when it could have really spiraled out of control.”

Senior
Scott Hunter held on to win the Senior Division, his first SNGA title.
“The ball-striking wasn’t there and I had a little bit of putting woes but I managed to hold off Marty (Martin Pena),” Hunter said.
He said his game has been solid but the victory was still a shock.
“It was surprising,” he said. “I thought for sure someone would come in with a lower score.”
He said his game-plan was simple.
“I just tried to stay consistent,” he said. “I stayed out of trouble for the most part. I did leave some strokes out there but that’s just me being a golfer. All-in-all, I hung in there pretty well.”
Hunter added he’s had a little more time to work on his game and it’s paying off.
“I had a long, long layoff,” he said with a laugh. “This is my first win since junior golf…probably 37 years ago. I retired from the FBI and started my own business and now I have a little more time to play a little more golf.”
Ah yes, junior golf. Most people have been there but Hunter has a little bit of a different story.
“I grew up playing junior golf with Bob May in Southern California,” Hunter added. “And he’s my brother-in-law as I married his sister (Kim).”

Silver
David Foggia kept up his winning ways, posting a seven-stroke victory in the Silver Division.
It was Foggia’s second win of the week, fifth of the year and fourth in the last seven weeks.
“I didn’t putt well but my driver, irons and wedges were working for me,” Foggia said. “I just played pretty solid golf.”
He said he’s working on the mental side of his game to go along with his swing.
“I’m learning how to manage the course,” he said. “And that’s helping me win events. I know I don’t always have to be aggressive. I’m just not putting myself in positions to make mistakes.”
He said the ninth and 10th holes certainly boosted his confidence.
“I eagled the 18th last Sunday to win,” he said. “And today, I hit a five-wood from 225 yards to about five feet and made the eagle putt. Then I stuffed it to about a foot on 10 for a tap-in birdie. I left a five-footer for birdie just short on No. 11 so everything was working well.”
