LAS VEGAS, NV (Dec. 11, 2024)–The Southern Nevada Golf Association For Business Women and the Revere Women’s Golf Club know there’s more to a great golf organization than just the golf. Both groups recently held holiday events to celebrate everything from golf to the holidays and a whole lot more.–by Bill Bowman, Las Vegas Golf Insider staff
“Every year, for at least the last 15 years or so, we do our ‘Jingle Balls Invitational,’ ” said Nancy Lauback, Jingle Balls Committee Member of the event held at Bear’s Best. “The funds we raise from the raffle and cash donations go to three local charities: Safe Nest, Refuge For Women and Shade Tree. We also collect clothing and canned goods for the groups. This year we raised more than $10,000. It’s been very successful every year. Every year we try to work with the charities helping women and children.”
Lauback said while there is a golf tournament, it’s the charity portion that drives the group to sign up every year…and very quickly.
“This tournament sells out on the very first day,” Lauback said. “And we have a waiting list…that’s how successful this tournament has been. It’s a lot of work and any club that does events like this knows that, but to be able to give back to the community makes it all worthwhile. We just do our best to give as much as we can.”
In the end, there is also a golf aspect to the event.
“The ladies are all very competitive on the course,” Lauback said with a laugh. “We have Santa, Elves and Reindeer flights depending on handicap and these ladies all want the chance to say they won their division.”
At the Revere Women’s Winter Wonderland Holiday Party, both the Revere’s nine-hole and 18-hole groups got together to celebrate the year.
“It’s our biggest event of the year,” said Joyce Haughey, the association’s outgoing president. “We have two separate groups and we all got together for a good time. I think we had 85 attendees and we have about 112 players covering both leagues so it was a great turnout.”
The event started with a putting contest.
“We had two five-hole courses,” Haughey said. “Everyone got to go out and compete and just have a good time.”
That was followed by an awards ceremony for the year.
“It’s difficult to get both groups together and we just had a great time,” Haughey said. “We have some very creative people who write songs and Christmas carols with golf lyrics. It was just a nice event.”
Haughey said the event left everyone with smiles on their faces.
“It was a great chance to unwind and just have fun,” she said. “We celebrated a year of great golf, not-so-great golf and friendships.”
