Since much of amateur golf is dominated by golfers under the age of 25, the United States Golf Association created the prestigious Mid-Amateur championships. These events that also can have local, state and national competitions, is for golfers over the age of 25 who want to compete during a life span when they also aren’t yet a senior.

The Women’s Southern Nevada Mid-Amateur in combination with the Women’s Senior Southern Nevada Amateur is schedule for April 16-17, 2024, at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Any female golfers over age 25 as of the first day of the tournament are eligible.

“The mid amateur events are sometimes overlooked by both men and women, and we are focused on growing the field for our Women’s Southern Nevada Mid-Amateur this year,” says Kat Marks, SNGA tournament director. “We encourage golfers over the age 25 to take a chance and come out and play in the event. We are playing a great course, Boulder Creek. Also, this event can be used as a stepping stone to try and qualify for the national USGA Mid-Amateur.”

Boulder Creek hosts top junior, high school, college, amateur and professional events and is committed to supporting amateur golf at all levels.

“A lot of our support of the amateur game has to do with the people who oversee and run the golf courses,” says Karl Larcom, director of golf. “Andy (Schaper) and I both have that very old school mentality that golf starts at the competitive side, and everything else around golf filters down from there. There are a lot of parts to a puzzle when it comes to running a golf course and we believe that competition should play a huge part in that puzzle.”

The Nevada State Men’s Mid-Amateur is scheduled for Sept. 15-17 at Red Hawk in Sparks, Nev. The USGA Mid-Am qualifier is Aug. 5 at TPC Summerlin.
