LAS VEGAS, NV (Feb. 19, 2025)–The early matches of the 2025 WSNGA Team Play series are off to an impressive start with a couple of new teams stepping up looking to make their mark. Nancy Lauback, co-coordinator of the WSNGA Team Play, said it’s great to see the level of competition the 21-team series is bringing to the Las Vegas area golf courses.–by Bill Bowman, Las Vegas Golf Insider staff
In the Blue Division, the early leaders are DragonRidge (Overall), Chimera Silver (Gross) and Red Rock (Net). Leading the way in the Red Division are Conestoga (Overall), BC Rock Steady (Gross) and Mountain Falls (Net). Canyon Gate is pictured above.
“Seeing some of the newer teams in leading positions is exciting,” Lauback said. “Mountain Falls came on three years ago and is leading the Red Division’s Net and Conestoga has been in contention before but to see them leading the Overall in the Red Division is impressive. It just shows the teams are taking this seriously and working hard to improve.”
The 21 teams are battling for a spot in the championship finale which will be held May 29, 2025, at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. The teams are trying to unseat the 2024 champions: Business Women (Overall), DragonRidge (Gross) and Red Rock (Net).
“The Blue Division has played four matches and the Red Division has played three matches so we’re plugging right along,” Lauback said. “There’s still a lot that can happen. There are a lot of teams within a few points of the top spots so the races are still tight. Anything can happen.”
Lauback said the teams are going the extra mile to keep improving.
“The cool part is the captains have the resources that, if they are so inclined, can do a lot of research to help the teams get stronger,” she said. “We use Golf Genius and it’s making it much more fun. Captains can do research to get the best out of their teams. It’s kind of like the football draft in that you’re looking at all of the numbers to help your team do its best.”
And fun seems to be the bottom line…along with the bragging rights up for grabs.
“The ladies just love this team play,” Lauback said. “And it just keeps growing. This series has seen the team rosters grow and that’s giving captains the ability to match up players a little better plus use players who may like a certain course a little more.”
