LAS VEGAS, NV (Jan. 23, 2025)–The WSNGA’s Team Play series, which got its beginning in the late 1990s, is set to showcase the top women’s clubs in Southern Nevada for the 2025 season. The series features 21 teams playing for three team titles. The squads will tee it up on 16 golf courses, private and public, in and around the Vegas valley. Let the battle begin.–by Bill Bowman, Las Vegas Golf Insider staff

The teams will be taking aim at last year’s champions: Business Women (Overall), DragonRidge (Gross) and Red Rock (Net). Those three teams claimed titles in the finale which was played last June at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort’s Wolf Course.

The regular-season format is simple: Each team in each of the two divisions will square off against each of the other teams in their division over the course of the regular season in a match-play format. Handicaps are in play and each team will have eight players in action each week.

In the end, each of the Blue and Red divisions will have a leader in the three divisions–overall, gross and net–and those leaders will play their counterpart for the crown in those three divisions.

The 21 teams will be battling for a spot in the championship finale which will be held May 29 at Paiute. Check out the video highlights from the 2024 Team Play Championship.

Sherry Jackson, new WSNGA Team Play Coordinator, said the series keeps getting more and more popular.

“The best part is it does unify all of Southern Nevada women’s golf,” Jackson said. “We have teams from all over Las Vegas and also have teams from Mesquite and Mountain Falls.”

She added the series allows the teams to interact as well as check out other courses.

“You meet a lot of new people and the fun part is it’s a chance to represent your club against other clubs,” Jackson added. “And a lot of the women play in both the team play as well as our WSNGA tournaments. It’s a nice step up from just playing events in your club.”

In the end, Jackson said the team play event’s appeal is simple to explain.

“The big selling point is the women get to play with friends and fellow club members in your association in a team atmosphere,” she said. “And on top of that, it’s fun and competitive, they get to play a lot of great golf course and meet new people.”
