Atencio-Burke and Jaramillo-Johnson Win State Partners Titles
Pahrump, Nev.— Christy Atencio and Cheryl Burke teamed up to win the gross portion of the Nevada State Women’s Golf Association 2019 Partners Tournament held April 28-29, 2019, at Mountain Falls Golf Club in Pahrump, Nev. Kathy Johnson and Joyce Jaramillo won the net portion. The prestigious tournament, a two-person best-ball event, was scheduled for two days, however rain and lightning washed out the second day. –By Bill Bowman, Las Vegas Golf Insider staff.

Atencio and Burke started out the shotgun start tournament with a birdie on their first hole and never looked back in posting a two-stroke victory. The duo fired a five-under-par 67 that included five birdies.
“We started on No. 10 and my partner made a birdie,” Burke said. “That really spurred us along early. When you’re under par after the first hole, you certainly feel like you have a chance.”
They added another birdie five holes later as the teamwork started to pay off.
“We really ham and egged it well,” Burke said. “We kind of took turns playing well. We didn’t have any bogeys on the card and that’s always a good thing. Sometimes par is your best friend on the golf course. You just have to bear down and play as well as you can and it turns out we just both played steady golf.”

Johnson and Jaramillo played in the event for the first time and came away with a one-shot victory.
But, as Jaramillo was quick to point out, they had a little advantage.
“This is our home course,” she said. “We play it all the time. It definitely helped us out.”
She added Johnson definitely set the tone for their teamwork.
“Kathy was driving the ball really well,” she said. “It really was good team play. She would have a good hole and then I would have a good hole. We teamed up really well. We just went out to have a fun day and it was a lot of fun.”
