Larcom Leads PGA Hope Scramble at Coyote Springs to Support Veterans
In partnership, the PGA of America, Southwest Section, Southern Nevada Chapter and the management of Jack Nicklaus’ Coyote Springs–led by SNGA committee member, Coyote Springs executive and PGA of America professional Karl Larcom–are holding the inaugural PGA hope Scramble April 11 to raise funds to benefit the PGA Hope Foundation. PGA Hope organizes golf clinics and outings for returning soldiers and veterans who have been injured in combat or suffer from PTSD. The cause is near and dear to Larcom, whose son, Hayden, is currently a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army and stationed in Fort Benning Georgia. — By Brian Hurlburt, Las Vegas Golf Insider.
“This is really great of the community and the SNGA to support this cause and these heroic soldiers,” Larcom says. “Hayden is in Georgia to complete his Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course and Airborne School & Ranger School. As he was going through the ROTC program and spending the summers doing programs with the Army while in college, it really made me realize how much positive U.S. soldiers do for our world. He spent one summer as a ROTC cadet in Madagascar assisting the Malagasi Army with training. Before they returned home, these cadets spent 2-days on their own time helping repair an orphanage. These are the stories we don’t hear as citizens. It really made me think about needing to do more, so I approached our PGA Chapter about doing an event.”
The PGA Hope program really helps and utlizes PGA of America professionals who have been trained in assisting and working with wounded soldiers and is at 100% no cost to the veteran.
“I’m witnessing first hand with my son that freedom isn’t free,” Larcom says. “I think we could all do just a little bit more for ALL our active duty and veterans. There are so many good causes out there and a lot of good people that make causes successful and this is a perfect fit for the PGA and our local chapter. We are able to take the skills that we already excel at as PGA professionals and create programs that will benefit people that have given so much to us.”
The Hope Event is April 11 and is a 4-person scramble format with the beautiful Coyote Springs to be played. Coyote Springs is a stunning Jack Nicklaus signature course that has received high media praise and player reviews since opening about a decade ago.
The PGA Hope Scramble entry is $500 per 4-person team or $125 per individual and includes golf, lunch on the course and prizes following play.
