The first thing the management and ownership of the new Chimera Golf Club want golfers in Southern Nevada to know is that they are locally owned and operated, and are dedicated to offering a top-level Las Vegas golf experience.
The public Chimera, formerly Tuscany Golf Club, changed ownership earlier this year and the new group has worked quickly to re-brand and renovate the facility with a lot more plans in the works, including the imminent debut of memberships that include official USGA handicaps through the Southern Nevada Golf Association. Chimera currently offers a Clark County resident rewards program and a Tuscany Village rewards program that offers discounts on golf and other benefits and the addition of the handicap will allow the club to easily hold tournament and provide another benefit to its members. Here are some of the key projects undertaken and/or in process by the new ownership:
– Purchase brand new turf equipment
– Replacing the sand in all of the bunkers
— Installation of a sulfur burning unit to naturally bring the PH of the lakes down to a reasonable level
– Creation of two beautiful, new 5-HP water fountains that not only increases the oxygen level of the lakes, but also breaks the thermal level keeping them smelling and looking fresher.
– Painted and refurbished signs and barrels that have weathered terribly over the years
– Placing new GPS units in EVERY golf cart which delivers yardages to hazards and greens from anywhere on the golf course. They will also automatically communicate with the Golf Shop to assist with pace of play.
– A complete revamp of the restaurant with new furniture, new equipment, a new chef, and new menus
– Nightly happy hour menus as well as food and beverage specials during major sporting events in the restaurant
– Increased restaurant hours coming soon with a dinner menu and special events throughout the year
Chimera Golf Club was artfully designed by the late Ted Robinson and is located in the southeast part of the valley on the way to Lake Las Vegas. It is the crown jewel of the Tuscany Village, the residential home community that borders the flowing fairways of Chimera. As are typical with Robinson designs, the par 3’s at Tuscany are beautiful and challenging, and the fairways offer plenty of room for the errant tee shot. Quality finishing holes on the inward and outward nine nicely accent the course.
About the Clark County Rewards Card: Golfers receive 5% in rewards for each dollar spent, and every member is eligible for monthly drawings (1 ticket for every point earned in that eligible month) as well as many other prizes and promotions throughout the year. On December 31st of each year, the club will determine the top three point earners for that year. Those individuals will be invited to join Director of Golf, Sean Solodovnick to play 18 holes at Cascata Golf Club followed by lunch.
The story behind the new name is of interest, and captures the energy and essence of what the new owners are trying to accomplish. Chimera, pronounced “ki-meer-uh” was a mythological, fire breathing monster, represented with the body and head of a female lion, a goat’s head arising from its back, and a serpent for a tail. Born of monster gods, the dreaded Chimera caused great havoc and terrorized the lands until it was defeated by the unconquerable hero Bellerophon with the help of his trusty winged horse, Pegasus.
Chimera is a synonym for infinite imagination, passion, and creativity, while it also symbolizes one’s pursuit of what seems unattainable or elusive (“to chase Chimeras”). The illusion and the mirage of this special oasis created to fight the desert’s heat and sun lead us to name this special place Chimera.
The legend of Chimera Golf Club is now in full swing.
