Annual Silver Cup Brings Solheim Cup Feel to Northern, Southern Nevada Women Golfers
It is a tradition unlike any other in golf in Nevada. The annual Silver Cup team competition between the Women’s Northern Nevada Golf Association and the Women’s Southern Nevada Golf Association brings a Solheim Cup feel to amateur golf.

“I believe the history of the event is what makes it special,” says Ronda Henderson, a Southern Nevada golfer who has played in the event several times. “It’s a fierce but friendly three days of match play golf. The Silver Cup is amateur golf at its finest, whether the matches are between two 15 handicappers or two single-digit handicappers. Each player is grinding it out, giving all they have, to win that point for their side.”
The Silver Cup originated in 1993 to help heal a fracture between state representatives from the North and South.
In 2024, the prestigious event will be played Oct. 14-16 at Canyon Gate Country Club in Las Vegas.
In 2023, the Women’s SNGA edged the Women’s NNGA 21-19 at Dayton Valley Golf Club to cut the North’s overall series lead to 17-13.
“It really came down to the last match for us,” said Regina Quintero, 2023 co-captain of the South team. “Robin Rakusin, who played for the North last year, beat Patricia Hiatt on the 17th hole and that’s where it was decided.”
A Silver Cup qualifier is being held along with the Southern Nevada Amateur June 10-11 at Canyon Gate Country Club
