Carpendale Wins the Senior Again; McInerney Takes the Championship Division
Las Vegas, NV – Gary Carpendale owns Las Vegas Golf Club.
The Senior won his 4th City Championship in 5 years at the City Course they call ‘Muni’ by chasing down first round leader John Turk on the back 9 during the final round.
Carpendale shot a smooth 68 to finish at 143, 1 under par total for two days. After a first round 75, many didn’t think Carpendale had much of a chance as Turk is normally a great front runner. Not at Muni, where it didn’t matter what other players did, Carpendale was coming for the victory.
The Senior Net Victory went to Joe Rada, a SNGA regular for years that loves “The Muni.” Rada shot 140 Net to win his first senior major since turning 50 in 2014. Newcomer Dave Faaesea came in second with a total of 141 Net.
In the Super Senior Division, Jim Olsen played consistent golf over two days to win his first SNGA Championship. Taking advantage of Frank Abbott’s trip to Europe, Olsen bellied up against the likes of Steve Johnson (2013 Super Senior City Championship) and Al Kueker to take home the win.
The Super Senior Net Division was won by Tom Richardson, who shot 61 Net on the final day to beat Al Kueker by one shot. Richardson shot a career low 70 gross to stun the field to come from behind.

In the Championship Division, A.J. McInerney, the captain of the UNLV Golf team finished at 8-under par over the two rounds of the Las Vegas City Amateur, a major for the Southern Nevada Golf Association. McInerney, fired rounds of 65-67—132 en route to the two-shot victory over Sam Dickey and Kenny Ebalo. Brady Exber and Justin Kim finished tied for fourth place, four shots behind McInerney.
“I felt good all weekend and I pretty much avoided mistakes both days, other than one bad shot in the final round,” said McInerney. “I made a double bogey on 15, but bounced right back with a birdie on 16 to seal the win.”
McInerney is a senior this year at UNLV and also won the Nevada State Match Play Championship this past summer. He also won the Las Vegas City Amateur in 2013, but didn’t play in the tournament last year due to a back injury. He credited being healthy to being a main reason for his recent solid play.
“It’s been 5 months in a row since I have had any back pain and no back issues,” said McInerney. “I have been able to work on my game and not worry about anything else so that has been very nice.”
McInerney played high school golf at Coronado High School in Henderson where he helped lead the school to three state titles. He also won the individual title in 2010 and 2012. McInerney won the Clark County Amateur, another SNGA major, as a 14-year old.
Former UNLV Golf All-American Edward Fryatt finished in tie for sixth. Taylor Montgomery, a teammate this year of McInerney at UNLV, finished in a tie for eighth.
In the Net Division, Joel Washinsky came from 9 shots back on the final day to win by 2 over Ed White and Eduardo Ramirez for his first Las Vegas City Amateur Championship.
