Dramatic Putt By Pyszko Clinches Cobb-Whalen Cup for SNGA
Team events take golf to the ultimate level. Experiencing the highest of those emotions at the prestigious Cobb-Whalen Cup was Greg Pyszko, who made the 10 foot putt that clinched the win for the South team and snapped a 4-match victory streak for the North.
The South earned the victory 12.5 to 11.5 and overall the matches now stand at 6 and 6 with one tie in 2012 when the North retained the cup.
The Cobb Whalen Cup, featuring 12 North players against 12 South players in Ryder Cup style play, is held every two years. The event is named after Clyde Cobb and John Whalen, two men who were instrumental in growing golf in Nevada. Cobb, who passed away in 2000, was a longtime president of the Southern Nevada Golf Association and is an original member of the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame. Whalen, who died in 1998, was the original executive director of the Northern Nevada Golf Association. It is a net competition.
Representing Southern Nevada were captain Tim Brand, Jon Ship, Robert Taylor, Michael Haas, Todd Kirby, Craig Garner, Greg Pyszko, Jeffrey Gillaume, Aaron Bartels, Brian Marks, Chris Price, George Wolf, and Jason Berton.
