For the Los Prados Women’s Golf Association, fun and games are the bottom line. Dolly Tucker, president of the women’s golf association, said each week’s game, and there are plenty of them, offer a variety of playing options that appeal to the group’s 55 members. Interested? Well, everyone’s invited to join in on the action. –by Bill Bowman, LasVegasGolfInsider.com
“We have a different tournament every week,” Tucker said of the group that plays on Wednesdays. “There’s a Pick-9 Holes, 1-2-3 Best Ball, Aces Wild, Back-9 Only, Tax Day…just a lot of goofy games where we can go out and just have fun. But, you can also win a little money.”
She did add the first week of each month the intensity does turn up a bit.
“The first week of each month is a low gross, low net day,” Tucker said. “It absolutely can get very serious.”
The group’s biggest event each year is their Devil’s Invitational held, you guessed it, right around Halloween.
“It’s a‘6-6-6 format,” Tucker said with a laugh. “We hold it the last Wednesday of October. We decorate it up with a Halloween theme and it’s just a lot of fun.”
And it’s popular.
“As soon as we send out the registration it fills up with 124 players (62 two-person teams),” she said. “The 6-6-6 format is six holes of best-ball, six holes a scramble and six holes alternate shot. We also have hole-in-one prizes. It’s just very popular. We open it up for members first and then for women in other clubs. At the end, we have 20-30 teams on the waiting list.”
Tucker said while most of the members live in the area (34 are residents), everyone is welcome to join in the fun and games.
“We have a few snowbirds who come in and play,” she said. “We have five women in their 50s, 10 to 20 in their 60s, a few of us are in our 70s and we have a couple in their 80s. It’s just a great group of ladies who like to have fun on and off the golf course.”
