John Turk, 72, Living a Dream with 2024 U.S. Senior Amateur Appearance
John Turk still can’t believe he is teeing it up at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tennessee, even a couple weeks removed from qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Senior Amateur via his co-medalist round at Red Rock Country Club.
“Am I dreaming or is it real?” Turk said a few days before officially teeing off in the event. “I am just going to try and enjoy myself. The Honors Course is going to be a challenge. It will be very difficult to just make pars.”
Turk is the third-oldest player in the field and one of two SNGA members to qualify. Joe Sawaia is the other and you can check out the USGA feature on him here.
The U.S. Senior Am is scheduled for Aug. 24-29 and you can access live scoring here.
“I’m 72 years old,” he said after the qualifier. “I had no expectations. These young guys were just pounding it past me. I just kept plugging along in the heat and somehow it all worked out.”
This will mark his second appearance in the U.S. Senior Amateur. He made the match play portion in 2018.
“I can’t tell you how much this means,” he said. “I had no idea I could qualify again for this thing. After 2018, I said…’well, I’ll probably never do that again.’ And yet, here I am.”
