For Regina Quintero it was a matter of playing consistent. Quintero had a three-stroke lead over a trio of golfers after the first round and had one goal in mind for the tournament’s final round: Play steady.
“I was just looking to play par golf,” she said of the second day approach. “I wanted to have a steady day. I wasn’t super aggressive. I was going to make someone play great golf to come and get me.”
She said she hit the ball well both days but struggled on the greens the second day.
“My driver was on and my approach shots were good but I just didn’t hit anything close,” she said. “I didn’t get any putts to fall. I think I was five over after the first five holes. I just couldn’t figure the greens out early but I did settle down.”

i took full advantage of a home course edge.
“I played my game and played the course as I know it,” she said. “I just tried to stay out of trouble and keep my game under control.”
She also said the flatstick came through.
“I putted very well,” she said. “We just came off the member-member event here so I was used to the course and that really helped. I know the greens pretty well.”
Winning the title has given her more confidence in the work she has put in on her game.
“I started playing more competitive golf four years ago and I’ve worked on getting my game better,” she said. “I’m really thrilled to be a state champion.”
