Boulder City, Nev/ (Dec. 22, 2024)–Drake Harvey (Championship), John Bobroski (Senior) and David Foggia (Silver) won titles in the 2024 SNGA Winter Classic. Anthony Lembo (Net), Artie Miller (Senior) and Barry Boudreaux (Silver) won net titles at the year’s final tournament which was held Dec. 21-22, 2024, at Cascata.–by Bill Bowman, Las Vegas Golf Insider staff

The two-day tournament featured a modified Stableford scoring. A double eagle was worth seven points, an eagle was worth five points, a birdie was worth three points, a par was worth two points, a bogey resulted in one point and a double bogey or worse was worth zero points.

Championship

Drake Harvey won his second SNGA title, both of them coming at Cascata as he also won the 2023 Cascata Amateur. He validated his recent commitment to play golf at BYU with a victory.

Harvey, a junior at Somerset Sky Pointe, said his rounds weren’t flashy…just consistent.

“I just played really steady,” he said. “The course fits my game pretty well…especially the tee shots. If you hit the fairway out here you can have success and I’ve played well on that course.”

He added his approach shots were key.

“I hit my irons really well today,” he said. “I had a lot of birdie putts inside of 15 feet today and I just didn’t make many. On the 14th I hit a perfect drive and hit a pitching wedge to 15 feet and got it to go. On 17, I thought I might be tied so I had 90 yards in and hit it to about 10 feet. I knew I probably needed to make it and I did.”

Overall, Harvey said the two days were comfortable golf.

“I kept hitting fairways and greens,” he said. “I think I only missed three fairways and two greens. Nothing really rattled me and that was a good feeling. I was surprised at how consistent I was. That was cool to see.”

Anthony Lembo put three net eagles on the scorecard in the first round and rolled to a five-point victory.

It was Lembo’s first SNGA victory.

“Today was a battle of the nerves,” Lembo said. “It’s all a battle in my head and today I hung in there.”

Lembo said the win will be a confidence booster going into 2025.

“It’s a validation for all the work I’ve put in,” he said. “I got a third here last year so the course is a good one for me. I felt comfortable out here.”

But not on every hole.

“I messed up one hole today,” he said. “It was a super-easy par-5. I messed up every shot and lost a ball. But with all of that I still had a 15-footer for double bogey…net bogey…and I made it. I got one point and that was better than nothing. I said, ‘OK, hang in there.’ I played pretty well the rest of the round.”

Lembo said he’s enjoying his time in the SNGA.

“This is probably my sixth or seventh event and to get a win is great,” he said. “The SNGA runs great tournaments. I’m originally from Northern California and to come in here and see the effort the SNGA puts in to these events is impressive. They run first-class events.”

Senior

John Bobroski won for the fourth time in 2024–three individual titles and a team crown. But this one was different. It was his first victory in a two-day SNGA event, which has been a long term goal.

Bobroski said the one-point victory was a great way to end the year…and start next year as this was the first points event of 2025.

“Let’s end it now…tell them I’m coming for them,” he said with a laugh. “I’m the leader in the clubhouse.”

Bobroski said the second day start was a little rocky…literally.

“My first tee ball hit the rocks and I started off with a bogey,” he said. “But, hey, I hung in there. Now, because I’m playing better, I know I can birdie holes and I actually birdied the next hole to get going.”

Now, it’s on to 2025.

“I’ve been playing good golf,” he said. “Everything came together after about 10 years of struggling. I’m able to get up-and-down now with my chipping and putting being pretty good. Overall, I’m happy with my game.”

Artie Miller finished 2024 the same way he started it…in the winner’s circle.

Miller won the first two Senior Net events of the year but then went on a winless streak until the 2024 finale.

He’s glad to finally win again.

“That’s about how the season went,” Miller said. “But this week I played much better. I kept the ball in play and made points on most of the holes. That’s what kept me going.”

He said the consistency paid off.

“I only had two birdies over the two days…that was basically it,” he said. “I just made a lot of pars and bogeys. I was just consistent. I had 31 points the first day and 30 points today.”

He said in the end, his play into the greens paid off.

“My putting wasn’t that great,” he said. “But I hit a lot of greens in regulation so I wasn’t having to do a lot of chipping to try and save par.”

David Foggia won for the eighth time in 2024 (seven individual titles and a team win) as he picked up a one-point victory in the Silver Division. The majority of his victories were in the SNGA Tour division, so earning a 2-day win was impressive.

“It was a hard day today,” Foggia said. “Cascata is a hard course…especially on the greens.”

Foggia said he played well. He just didn’t putt well.

“I had a lot of bad putts,” he said. “This course can make good putters look bad at times. I had a four-putt and four three-putts the first day and still shot 78.”

He said his start the final day was one that really tested his poise.

“I started off bogey, double bogey, double bogey,” he said. “I knew I had a slim lead going into the day but then I had to start chasing it.”

He said an attitude adjustment kept him in control.

“I’m getting better at not giving up,” he said. “Everyone else has to play the course as well. I just tried to stay patient.”

He added the key hole turned out to be late in his round when he played No. 1.

“I almost holed it from the fairway,” he said. “The ballmark was about an inch from the hole and I made the putt for birdie. That boosted my confidence and I finished well.”

Barry Boudreaux made it back-to-back Winter Classic victories as he won for the second time in 2024 and for the third time overall.

Boudreaux had six birdies in the final round, five net and one natural, in posting a three-point victory.

“Winning back-to-back Winter Classics is a big thing for me,” he said. “I don’t know what it is about this course but I drove it well these two days.”

That driving helped him, especially the second day.

“I had a good string of holes today where I got strokes,” he said. “But the one I’m the most proud of is the first hole where I had a natural birdie. I made a 25-30 foot birdie putt and that was definitely my best stroke of the day. And I did well on my last two holes after the birdie so that one putt definitely helped my confidence.”
