It was a banner 2019 for the Southern Nevada Golf Association and the numbers prove it. An all-time high in membership, thousands of total golfers participating in tournaments and hundreds of thousands in economic impact at more than 30 Las Vegas-area golf courses. And 2020 looks to be even better. –By Brian Hurlburt, Las Vegas Golf Insider.

“Wow is really all we can say about 2019,” says Ann Sunstrum, SNGA executive director. “We are so thankful to the entire golf community for helping to support this wonderful game. The course owners, general managers, PGA of America professionals, golf course superintendents, staff, our volunteers and all of our allied associations; they all mean so much to our success and it is because of them that we are successful.”

The SNGA ended with 11,406 members and held 68 tournaments days where 2,645 total golfers participated in gross and net championships for varying ages and genders. In all, 30 golf courses were used and a total of $252,334 was spent at the facilities. Also, an additional $70,000 in Southern Nevada golf community support was driven by the SNGA. Also, the SNGA held eight USGA qualifiers, 15 official rules seminars and 62 volunteers worked tirelessly to make golf better in Southern Nevada in 2019.

The numbers also don’t reveal the SNGA’s work with the Nevada Golf Alliance, the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association, the Nevada State Golf Association and the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame, among others. Plus the roll out of the new golf rules in 2019 and the preparation for the new GHIN and World Handicap systems in 2020. All boats rise together, as the saying goes.

“Now we look to 2020 with a renewed excitement and bold vision,” Sunstrum says. “We continue to seek best operating practices and want to involve as many golfers in Southern Nevada as possible. We hope all of our members share our mission of growing the game. So if we ask one thing in 2020, it’s to invite a golfing friend to join the SNGA and become a part of the fabric of golf in Southern Nevada.”
