“The beautiful scenery and some interesting animals in the wild, like the alligator at Hilton Head, the wild turkey on the course on Molokini, HI, the bear in Canada that caused us to skip putting,” are some of the first things that come to mind about golf for Mannino. “As far as golf itself, one morning in New York at Bay Hill, I went with my husband’s cousin’s skinny 14-year old son and just the two of us walked up to the tee. The two gentlemen’s eyes said it all ‘oh no, this is going to be a long round.’ That look in their eyes pushed me to play my best and of course our cousin who had hoped to turn professional played an outstanding round. Well, the two gentlemen had a hard time keeping up with us. It was a great day.”
Mannino shattered the glass ceiling during her career that culminated with a role as VP of SSA Marine, where she oversaw shipping ports in Southern California. She credited her career and life outlook to her parents.
“I was so fortunate to grow up in the 50’s with parents who let me be independent to a point, who let me fall and get hurt or bruised, and taught me how to get back up and try again,” Mannino says. ” And that if you want to be better you have to try harder. They told me I could be anything I wanted to be, but I would need to work for it, follow the rules and to be fair and honest with others.”
Here’s more about Mannino in this video.
