Through the first two weeks of the WSNGA Team Play series, the leader in the clubhouse is … the weather. The 19 teams representing courses far and wide have been split into Red and Blue Divisions. And with the first two rounds of matches in the books, the teams have battled severe weather problems as well as their opponents in the chase for playoff spots down the line. And going forward, everyone’s looking for victories … and a little warmer weather. –By Bill Bowman, Las Vegas Golf Insider
“The first play day, Jan. 30, it was freezing, raining and snowing (at Los Prados and Bear’s Best),” said Nancy Lauback, WSNGA Team Play Coordinator. “The second play day, Feb. 13 for the Red Division, was played at Red Rock and had great weather. The Blue Division played on Feb. 14 at Chimera and had the same bad weather. It’s been crazy weather to start the year, that’s for sure.”
Despite the weather woes, Lauback said the women have been up to the challenge.
“Everything is rocking right along,” she said. “The girls are playing great and it’s been a great start to the event…not counting the weather. Right now we’re hoping for beautiful weather as spring gets closer and that it’s not too hot in May.”
After the first two weeks of play, the leaders are:
Blue Division: Overall, Canyon Gate; Gross, Oasis; Net, Siena.
Red Division: Overall, BC Rock Steady; Gross, LV Golf Club; Net, Anthem and Revere.
Lauback said the jockeying for positioning has already started.
“Everyone’s hung in there with the weather and it’s highly competitive,” she said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun as we progress. It’s two weeks of play down and seven regular season matches to go and then the playoffs.”
Lauback added the success of this league is definitely a team effort.
“We’ve got a great support team that is helping everything run smoothly,” she said. “And it’s only going to get better once the weather cooperates.”
