SNGA members Sarro, Smith Win High School Titles

As many Southern Nevada Golf Association members know, the association membership runs deep and there are golfers of all ages and levels who are members. Two of our youngest recently had success on the biggest stages in the state. Coronado High golfer Michael Sarro won the 4A individual title and Western’s Jared Smith won the 3A title. Congratulations to them both. The event was at Somersett Golf and Country Club in Northern Nevada.

Sarro won in a playoff with a birdie on the first extra hole over Galena’s Ian Gilligan. Sarro helped Coronado to their second straight 4A team title Coronado’s Ben Sawaia was second and another Cougar, Joey Dotta, was third. Earlier in the year, the Cougars won their sixth straight Desert Region title.

In the 3A tourney, Jared Smith fired two straight 3-under-par 69 rounds at Genoa Lakes to win the Class 3A individual title.

Smith finished with a 36-hole total of 138 to win by six strokes over Boulder City’s Blake Schaper, who shot 75 on Tuesday. Schaper is the son of Boulder Creek general manager Andy Schaper. Truckee won the team title over Boulder City.
