Women’s SNGA Team Play Competition Features 20 Teams in 2024

Welcome to the Women’s Southern Nevada Golf Association Team Play series, 2024 edition. The series, which has been around since the late 1990s, has its biggest field this year as 20 teams are battling it out for bragging rights. There will be 18 golf courses used in the series, including public and private layouts, as well as road trips to Mesquite and Pahrump. –by Bill Bowman, Las Vegas Golf Insider

Nancy Lauback, WSNGA Vice President, said the series keeps growing and growing with DragonRidge coming on board in 2024 as the 20th team.

“It’s just a great way for the women’s groups to come together,” Lauback said. “It’s a really fun thing to do and more and more ladies are coming on board.”

The series, which features 10 teams in the Blue Division and 10 teams in the Red Division, will have nine events during the season with the championship event being held June 4 at the Wolf Course at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. Lauback and Sherry Jackson, the official team play coordinator, oversee the events.

During the season, each team will face off against the other teams in their division in a match-play format. Handicaps are used and each team will see eight players teeing it up at each event.

The teams are battling it out to win one of three divisions: Overall, gross and net.

“After the first few weeks, the teams are starting to get into the spots of looking at whether they want to go for gross, net or overall,” Lauback said.

Lauback is quick to point out that while everyone has a great time, there is plenty of competition in the matches.

“While we’re out here to have fun, enjoy the courses and meet new people…we all still want to win,” Lauback said with a laugh.

Lauback added the series is a win-win situation for the golfers and the golf courses.

“It’s a good income generator for the courses,” she said. “The ladies are helping with the revenue through greens fees, meals, drinks and more. In fact, we generated more than $100,000 in revenue for the courses last year. And for us, we get to play courses, especially a few of the private courses, that we wouldn’t normally get to play.”

In the end, Lauback said the interest among the women is impressive.

“We just keep growing,” she said. “I think women’s golf just keeps growing in the valley. There are a lot more women players at courses and this is a good format for everyone. It’s just a lot of fun and everyone enjoys it.”
