WSNGA Team Play Preview – 19 Teams Ready to Determine 2023 Champion

The WSNGA’s 2023 Team Play Series is scheduled to begin Jan. 30, and for the 19 teams signed up, it’s time to show they have the right stuff to compete for a title. The events will be played over 17 Vegas area golf courses including Mesquite, which will play host to the regular-season finale on May 22-23.

The regular season finale will set the stage for the playoffs beginning in early June.

The opening week’s play is set at Los Prados (for the Blue Division) and Bear’s Best (for the Red Division). It is the first of nine sessions for each division.

Nancy Lauback, WSNGA Team Play Coordinator, said the interest in the series is impressive.

“We have 19 teams again,” Lauback said. “We now have two teams out of Mesquite and one out of Mountain Falls in Pahrump. The word is spreading.”

The 19 teams taking part in the 2023 series include:

Blue Division–Business Women, Painted Desert, Red Rock, Canyon Gate, Boulder City Dam Team, Oasis, Chimera Silver, Wildhorse and Siena.

Red Division–Los Vegas Golf Club, Boulder City Rock Steady, Chimera Black, Revere, Spanish Trail, Mountain Falls, Sun City Summerlin, Anthem, Conestoga and Los Prados.

“Everybody wants to win but everyone still has a lot of fun,” Lauback said. “They are vying to be gross, net or overall champions plus there are runner-ups so there’s a lot on the line. It’s just a great way to interact with other women you might not know and have a good, friendly competition.”

The series will feature nine events, held every other week, with each team squaring off against the other teams in their division along the way in a match play format. The Blue Division, with nine teams, will have one squad with a bye each week. Handicaps are used and each team will feature eight players teeing it up at each event.

“We want to provide a fun, competitive format for the women throughout the Vegas Valley and beyond,” Lauback said. “It’s a long-running tournament format which everyone enjoys or they wouldn’t keep coming back.”
