Las Vegas City Am Week Is Now Southern Nevada Golf Association Tradition
Aligning each of the major city amateur championships–plus adding a new tournament–was first done in 2022 when the inaugural Las Vegas City Amateur week was created. Now, the 2nd Annual Las Vegas City Am Week in 2023 will be bigger, better, and feature women, juniors, men and senior men. –By Brian Hurlburt, www.lasvegasgolfinsider.com
A Las Vegas amateur golf tradition has been created. Each event will be played at the historic Las Vegas Golf Club, which opened in 1938 and has been hosting the Las Vegas City Amateur for decades.
“The first thing I think about the 2nd annual city am week is that just it is growing and we have successfully started a new tradition,” said Kenny Ebalo, SNGA president. “It was exciting last year and then this year with the addition of the juniors and the large fields of the other events, the tournament committee and I believe everyone will be looking forward to it. There was also a very nice buzz that was created around the week in 2022. It is really cool to take something that everyone holds in such high regard to another level. We really want the players to feel special and we place different banners, we have different pin flags that are specific to Las Vegas City Am Week and everything we are doing is to really make this the biggest week in Southern Nevada amateur golf. Plus, having each of the events at such a special place like Las Vegas Golf Club means a lot to us.”
Up first during 2023 Las Vegas City Am Week is the one-day SNGA Tour Series.
That will be followed is the playing of the Las Vegas City Junior Amateur Oct. 21-22 at Las Vegas Golf Club.
Then comes the 2nd Annual Las Vegas City Women’s Amateur Oct. 23-24. Next on the schedule is the prestigious Las Vegas City Senior Amateur Oct. 26-27.
The Week is highlighted by the playing of the 2023 Las Vegas City Amateur, which has witnessed champions such as future PGA Tour players Craig Barlow, Robert Gamez, Edward Fryatt and others. Top collegiate players, UNLV golfers and others have also hoisted the trophy.
There is another additional event tied to the week. The SNGA Tour plays Las Vegas Golf Club Oct. 21 while the KGA, an SNGA member club, plays an event Oct. 21-22.
